Commercial commissionning of the first 131 MW of the Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farms

Boralex Inc. ("Boralex"), Gaz Métro Limited Partnership ("Gaz Métro") and Valener Inc. ("Valener") are pleased with the commercial commissionning of the first 131 MW of the Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farms, which is on schedule.

"After more than eight years of hard work by the Boralex and Gaz Métro teams, we are proud that the first 62 turbines are feeding green energy into the Quebec power grid," said Sophie Brochu, President and CEO of Gaz Métro, and Patrick Lemaire, President and CEO of Boralex. In a few days, the additional 141 MW will also be commissioned, thus completing the most important phase of the Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farms.

Many people played an essential role in the completion of Phase I of the 272 MW wind farm and in meeting the commissioning date: the Séminaire de Québec, owner of the territory, Borea, the contractor responsible for the construction of the roads, the collector system and the substation, Enercon, the turbine manufacturer for the 126 wind turbines, as well as the elected officials of the region and a large number of local businesses.

Mr. Jacques Roberge, Superior General of the Séminaire de Québec said that "this important step taken on time confirms that we have associated ourselves with quality partners, Quebecers to boot, and it is with great pride that we will continue our long-term relationship with them for the operation and development of the site."

Highlights of the first 272 MW phase of the Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farms:

  • 50,000 Quebec homes will be able to receive electricity annually

  • 1.5 million hours of work will be required to build the 126 turbines

  • 750 million in investments, including $360 million in Quebec and $145 million in the Capitale-Nationale region

  • More than thirty local companies in the Côte-de-Beaupré region participated in the construction of the 272 MW Phase I

Ms. Brochu and Mr. Lemaire point out that "2013 marks the end of the most important work on the Seigneurie de Beaupré territory. In 2014, Phase II, with a capacity of 68 MW, will be commissioned and in 2015, the 25 MW of the community project will be added to this wind power site, one of the largest in Canada."
