Environmental initiative: LED light bulbs installed at the wind farms

Recently, members of the Seigneurie de Beaupré Wind Farms operations team began replacing the light bulbs in the substation's garage with LED bulbs. These new bulbs are up to 10 times more durable than the old ones! Instead of having to change the bulbs every year, this operation will now only have to be done every 10 years (minimum) given the 50,000 hour life span of LED bulbs.

In addition to reducing energy consumption, this new feature also reduces waste in the building and optimizes the operational budgets dedicated to bulb replacement.

Another major benefit of LED bulbs is the improved long-term safety of workers. Indeed, changing bulbs requires working at heights, which is inevitably more risky. This new lighting solution is therefore safer for replacement maneuvers, since it greatly reduces their frequency.

Fun fact: this initiative was proposed as part of the "30 years, 30 actions in sustainable development" contest launched by Boralex for its employees in 2020 to mark its 30th anniversary!

It's also worth mentioning that this good move is in addition to the Seigneurie de Beaupré Wind Farms team's proposal to participate in a single-use protective mask recycling program. We are currently testing the feasibility of implementing this measure.
