Boralex Inc. ("Boralex"), Gaz Métro Limited Partnership ("Gaz Métro") and Valener Inc. ("Valener") are pleased with the publication by the Ministère du Développement durable, de l'Environnement, de la Faune et des Parcs of the decree for the Seigneurie de Beaupré - 4 wind farm, a project with an installed capacity of 68 MW located in the Côte de Beaupré region.
"Obtaining this decree confirms once again the quality of the Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farm site, but also demonstrates our desire to develop the project with respect for the host community," said Patrick Lemaire, President and Chief Executive Officer of Boralex, and Sophie Brochu, President and Chief Executive Officer of Gaz Métro. Indeed, following the hearings held as part of the environmental approval process overseen by the BAPE, the consortium has taken into consideration the issues raised by stakeholders and assures that it will keep them in mind throughout the realization of this project.
Now that the environmental approval stage has been completed, the promoters can move forward with applications for construction permits and obtaining financing from financial institutions.
The Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farms include a 272 MW first phase that will be commissioned by the end of 2013 and a 68 MW second phase for which the decree will allow construction to begin as soon as possible. Located on the private lands of the Séminaire de Québec, 15 km north of St-Tite-des-Caps and 60 km northeast of Quebec City, these projects will produce enough electricity to power more than 60,000 homes.
