Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farms: environmental green light

Updated: Apr 28, 2021

The Seigneurie de Beaurpé Wind Farms have been granted their decrees for their two wind projects totaling an installed capacity of 272 MW.

Boralex Inc. and Gaz Métro Limited Partnership (the "Consortium") are pleased to learn from the Minister of Natural Resources and Wildlife, Nathalie Normandeau, that the government has granted a decree for their two wind power projects with a total installed capacity of 272 MW.

"The announcement of this decree, the first to be granted to a project selected in Hydro Quebec's last call for tenders, is excellent news for the Consortium and clearly demonstrates the environmental merit and social acceptability of the Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farms. We are enthusiastic about contributing to the expansion of the wind power industry in Québec," said Patrick Lemaire, President and Chief Executive Officer of Boralex and Sophie Brochu, President and Chief Executive Officer of Gaz Métro.

Having successfully completed the key stage of environmental approvals, the Consortium can now move forward with the application for construction permits and the obtaining of financing from financial institutions.

The Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farms will be commissioned in December 2013. The private lands of the Séminaire de Québec, which will host the Consortium's projects, give them distinctive advantages. In addition to the exceptional wind deposits, the site is far from any urban or residential area. The wind projects will be built 60 km northeast of Quebec City and 15 km north of Saint-Tite-des-Caps, making the visual and noise impacts of the two wind farms virtually non-existent for the surrounding communities.
